Hypnotherapy for weight / eating issues

Battling with a weight problem can feel like an uphill struggle. Whether you are desperate to lose weight, stop overeating, make more healthier food choices, exercise more, improve your self esteem, stop bingeing, or stop obsessing about food, making the decision to achieve these goals very rarely leads to success. In fact, the more you try to diet or lose weight, the harder it often seems to get, and when you fail you are likely to resort back to your old eating habits, causing further weight gain, low self esteem and self worth.

Problems around what we eat and how we eat have become commonplace.  We live in a culture increasingly obsessed by healthy eating and diets, but the truth is that most people are failing in their attempt to gain control of their weight. Studies estimate that over 13 million people are trapped in a cycle of permanent dieting, and the depression and psychological problems that accompany it.

The fact is diets just don’t work for the majority. One third of people who diet actually end up putting on more weight rather than losing it, and only one in a hundred actually lose the weight they hoped to.

Compulsive overeating

A common difficulty people have with losing weight is due to overeating. You may believe you are addicted to food, being compelled to eat even when you’re not hungry. You may obsessively think about food, plan and fantasize about eating, or eat in secret which often leads to feelings of guilt. Compulsive overeating almost always leads to weight gain and makes dieting an unrealistic option.

Weight loss and self image

Studies show that 90% of women say they do not like their body, with over half going as far as to say that they hate it. Eating problems and weight issues are not always just about food.  For some, these issues often begin when they start to believe that their life would be different if they were thinner. How can you manage your weight / eating issues?

The simple answer is, not very well. Trying to stop obsessing about food, stop overeating, stop doing what comes naturally is like trying to stop blinking. You can try, but eventually the unthinking, subconscious part of the mind will override your attempts and your normal instinctive and emotional responses will take over automatically once again.
