Trichotillomania is a habit that happens automatically, especially during moments of stress, boredom, or overwhelm. You might notice you’re doing it without realising, or feel a sense of tension before the urge, followed by temporary relief. But afterwards, it’s often replaced by frustration, guilt, or the urge to hide the effects.
Many clients describe feeling stuck in a cycle – wanting to stop, but somehow not being able to. Even with strong willpower or awareness, the habit often takes control.
