- cravings and the urge to smoke
- smoking when stressed or anxious
- smoking with a drink or on nights out
- the habit of smoking after meals or with coffee
- worries about putting on weight
- worry about missing cigarettes
- staying motivated after you stop
- feeling confident socially as a non-smoker
It aims to help you feel calm, confident and in control as a non-smoker.
How hypnotherapy to stop smoking works
We begin with your reasons for stopping and the situations where you most often smoke. That might mean the first coffee of the day, a stressful meeting or a night out with friends.
In hypnosis, we use relaxation, imagery and tailored suggestions to explore the expectations attached to cigarettes. We rehearse handling those moments calmly, strengthen your own reasons for stopping and build a picture of daily life as a non-smoker.

My appointment with susannah has gone very very well, I have now been off the weed habit for over a month now, she has taken away my want to smoke it and some of the issues that go with it when you stop smoking it, I cannot thank this lady enough for giving me a new start, the voice notes that you will get after your appointment help so much, I listen to them every night before bed, now I only need to listen to them every now and then, not once have I wanted to go and get some (w) and it is all down to the appointment I had with susannah, highly recommend if you have the problem that I had, tried to give up myself but always gave in to it, I have a new life now and getting a lot done, sleeping is good and have saved a lot of money not smoking it, thinking more clearly now too, I’m so please as it’s been a habit of mine for many many years, I couldn’t have done this without her help and I’m so grateful, she is there if you need extra help too xPosted on Google![]()

I've been working with Susannah for several months to work on my insomnia issues. After a few sessions we discovered I was also mildly depressed and we have been working together to try and fix the issues I was experiencing. In just 6 weeks I've gone from a fragment of myself to an inspired, vibrant person again and I'm so thrilled with the results. Susannah's hypnotherapy sessions are beautiful and she really works with you to become better. Highly recommend her to anyone!Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommended. It is very easy to communicate with Susannah and Susannah transmits positive vibes. Clearly Susannah focus is the well being of her patients. I gave up vaping in one session, no craving and no need to substitute by something else. This helps me to open a new chapter in my life without the servitude of smoking/vaping. 100% success as far as I am concerned. Would turn to Susannah again for what ever my needs are in the future.Posted on Google![]()

I have been on quite the journey with Susannah. For so many years so many aspects of my life seemed to be causing me anxiety and anger, making me too exhausted to complete simple, everyday tasks, that seemed straightforward to other people. I couldn’t imagine things would improve without months of therapy at least. Working with Susannah however made me understand that it was my perception of my life rather than the events of my life that needed addressing, and this made finding solutions so much more manageable. Right from the first session things started to improve, and as it turned out, in total I needed only five sessions. Susannah has a gift for explaining complex functions of the brain in a super-accessible way, so that I now both understand what was going wrong and have developed strategies to support me in preventing the build-up of stress and anxiety in the future. I cannot think of an area of my life that has not been positively impacted by my time with Susannah and cannot recommend her highly enough.Posted on Google![]()

I would like to start my review with thanking Susannah. I was sceptical, but went in with an open mind. I had one session of hypnosis to help quit smoking. I was a person that could stop and start but I wanted to quit for good. My session was at the beginning of Feb and so far so good. I feel a lot better health wise also helped motivate me to consistently go to the gym and generally take better care of myself. If your thinking about doing it, go for it, best decision I've made.Posted on Google![]()

I got in touch with Susannah after yet another flight that made me feel sick and traumatised. Living overseas is great until you begin to have a fear or flying which impacts your ability to travel with your husband and also for work. Since spending time with Susannah i have been able to fly a total of 4 times in the last 2 weeks and havent gotten upset or fearful like i used too once - im now able to fly and the worst thing that happens is i get bored!! :) I cant thank Susannah enough for helping me with this fear! Also, and i think no coincidence, i am far calmer in my day to day life. I absolutely never thought id be able to get off of a plane and go in to the office, instead of needing a sleep and a drink to get through it!!! Absolutely changed my life - long may it continue.Posted on Google![]()

I'm a 33yo woman. I've struggled most of my life with low mood/depression and anxiety. I came to Susannah looking for help in changing my unhealthy habits and mindset. I can't even tell you exactly what has changed since my 3 hypnotherapy sessions, only that something in me has shifted, I feel better, more content, positive and lighter and I'm making better choices. After the first session it felt like something in my brain moved, for the better. I was really sceptical going in to this, especially as the sessions were online, but it worked. Would definitely recommend Susannah, the sessions aren't cheap but was worth every penny to me.Posted on Google![]()

I recently had 3 sessions of hypnotherapy with Susannah to help with a fear of flying that had been causing me anxiety, and tainting my experience of travel and holidays for many years. This was my first experience of hypnotherapy, and it was an extremely positive and beneficial one, as I have since been on multiple flights without that old anxiety, and free of the accompanying tension and fear. This is entirely down to Susannah's calming, patient manner and extremely insightful techniques. I can't recommend her services highly enough. Why stopping smoking can feel hard
Smoking involves nicotine, which is addictive, and a habit linked to many parts of your day. Cigarettes can become tied to coffee, breaks, drinking, driving and winding down in the evening.
Many smokers also see cigarettes as a friend, a reward or a way to cope. When the habit is this familiar, stopping can feel like losing something, even when you want to quit.
Stop smoking hypnotherapy and your health
Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. If you take regular medication, let your GP or pharmacist know you plan to stop, as the dose of some medicines may need checking.
If you are pregnant, your midwife can put you in touch with free NHS stop smoking support. Stop smoking hypnotherapy works alongside any medical advice you receive.
Common smoking triggers
Common triggers for smoking include:
- waking up and having your first coffee
- stress at work or at home
- finishing a meal
- drinking alcohol or going out
- being around other smokers
- driving or long car trips
- boredom or waiting around
- tiredness or low mood
Knowing your triggers helps shape your hypnotherapy, so the hypnosis can focus on the moments you find hardest.
Hypnotherapy for smoking cravings
Cravings can feel intense, yet they tend to pass within a few minutes. They are often strongest in the first few weeks after you stop.
Hypnotherapy for smoking cravings aims to help you stay calm when a craving comes, so you can let it pass. You also learn a simple technique to use in the moment.
Hypnosis for stress smoking
Many smokers reach for a cigarette when they feel stressed, angry or overwhelmed. It can feel calming, yet the NHS explains that smoking increases anxiety and tension over time.
The relief you feel comes from easing the craving that has built up since your last cigarette. Hypnosis for stress smoking aims to lower your overall stress, so you can handle pressure calmly as a non-smoker.
Hypnotherapy for social smoking
Some people only smoke when they drink, go out or spend time with friends who smoke. Social smoking can be hard to let go of, as it is tied to fun, relaxing and feeling part of the group.
Hypnotherapy for social smoking aims to help you enjoy nights out, parties and holidays as a non-smoker. It can also help you feel relaxed around friends who still smoke.
Hypnosis to quit smoking at work
For many people, smoking breaks are a chance to step away from the desk and chat with colleagues. Stopping can feel like giving up that break, as well as the cigarette.
Hypnosis to quit smoking at work aims to help you handle busy days calmly and enjoy breaks as a non-smoker. A walk, a coffee with a colleague or some fresh air can become your new break.
Hypnosis to break smoking habits
Over time, smoking becomes linked to everyday routines, such as the first coffee, the walk to the station or the end of a meal. These links can set off the urge to smoke automatically, before you have even thought about it.
Hypnosis aims to break these links, so your routines feel complete as a non-smoker. It can also help to choose something new for those moments, such as a glass of water or a short walk.
Stop smoking hypnotherapy and weight gain worries
Many people worry about putting on weight when they stop smoking. Nicotine can affect appetite, and some people reach for snacks when they miss the hand-to-mouth habit.
Stop smoking hypnotherapy can also help you feel calm and in control around food. If weight is a big concern, my page on weight loss hypnotherapy has more on this.
Hypnotherapy if you have tried to stop smoking before
Many people make several attempts before they stop smoking. Each attempt can teach you something about your triggers and what helps.
If you have tried patches, gum or willpower before, hypnotherapy offers a different approach, working with the subconscious mind. It aims to build on what you have learned, so you feel confident in your ability to stop.
How smoking affects daily life
Smoking can shape your day around your next cigarette. You might plan breaks, leave meals early or stand outside in the cold and rain.
Many smokers worry about their health, the cost and the smell on their clothes and hair. Some feel embarrassed, or hide their smoking from family, colleagues or their children.
Who stop smoking hypnotherapy can help
Stop smoking hypnotherapy can help many different people who are ready to stop, including:
- long-term smokers
- social smokers
- people who smoke when stressed
- those who have tried patches, gum or medication before
- roll-up and cigarette smokers
- parents who want to stop for their family
- people stopping for health reasons, alongside medical advice
You can bring the habits you want to change, whether you smoke occasionally or every day.
The beliefs that keep people smoking
Smoking is often held in place by beliefs such as ‘smoking helps me relax’ or ‘I’ll put on weight if I stop’. Others include ‘I’ve tried before, so I’ll fail again’ or ‘life won’t be as much fun’.
These expectations can remain convincing even when you want to stop. We explore what cigarettes seem to offer you and practise other ways to meet those needs, so being a non-smoker feels more inviting and familiar.
Smoking, hypnosis and the subconscious mind
Subconscious is a useful word for learned responses that feel automatic. You may reach for a cigarette after a meal or when work becomes stressful, before you have consciously decided to smoke.
Hypnosis uses focused attention, imagery and personalised suggestions to work with these associations. We rehearse familiar situations as a non-smoker and practise responding to an urge without automatically acting on it.
What stop smoking hypnosis feels like
Hypnosis is a natural, relaxed state, similar to daydreaming or the moment before sleep. You stay aware of what is happening and in control throughout.
Stop smoking hypnosis is a clinical process, very different from stage hypnosis. Many people are surprised by how relaxing it is, and by how calm they feel afterwards.
Techniques used in quit smoking hypnotherapy
Quit smoking hypnotherapy draws on many techniques, tailored to you. Depending on what you need, it can include:
- lowering overall stress and anxiety
- working on the beliefs that keep you smoking
- positive suggestion to strengthen your reasons for stopping
- changing how you feel about cigarettes and smoke
- breaking the links between smoking and daily routines
- a simple technique to use when a craving comes
- helping you see yourself as a non-smoker
- self-hypnosis to use in the weeks after you stop
- rehearsing tricky moments, such as a night out, where helpful
The techniques are chosen to suit your smoking habits and triggers.
Stop smoking hypnotherapy alongside other support
Stop smoking hypnotherapy can work alongside nicotine replacement therapy or your local NHS stop smoking service. These services are free and can offer advice and stop smoking aids.
Hypnotherapy focuses on the habit and how you feel about smoking, which can make other support easier to use.
Is hypnotherapy to stop smoking right for you?
Hypnotherapy to stop smoking tends to work best when you have decided to stop and are ready to commit to it. It can then support your decision and help you stay on track.
It can help whether you have smoked for a few years or for most of your life.
Choosing a hypnotherapist to stop smoking
When choosing a hypnotherapist to stop smoking, look for recognised qualifications and experience of helping people stop. It also helps to feel comfortable with the person you choose, and an initial consultation is a good chance to ask questions.
I hold the SQHP and HPD qualifications and have been practising as a clinical hypnotherapist since 2003.
The benefits of hypnotherapy to stop smoking
The aim of hypnotherapy is to support your decision to stop and help you feel more settled in everyday situations without cigarettes. This can include handling urges, finding calmer ways to respond to stress and enjoying social occasions as a non-smoker.
Stopping smoking itself brings benefits such as saving money, improved taste and smell, and better health over time. The NHS explains these changes in its guide to the benefits of quitting smoking.
Smoking triggers, stress and support
The NHS guide to smoking triggers and cravings explains why familiar routines can bring on an urge to smoke. Its guide to smoking and stress describes how temporary relief from nicotine withdrawal can feel calming while keeping the cycle going.
A 2019 meta-analysis by Valentine and colleagues found reduced anxiety across the hypnosis studies reviewed. This research concerns anxiety rather than proving a stop smoking success rate. In your session, we connect work on stress and confidence with the particular situations where you smoke.
For practical health information, see the NHS benefits of quitting smoking. For advice about medicines, speak with your GP or pharmacist; NICE guidance explains why doses of some medicines may need review when smoking changes. If you are pregnant, your midwife can help you access pregnancy-specific stop smoking support.

Answers about cravings, habits, your £300 session, the included recording, and appointments in London or online.
Choosing stop smoking hypnotherapy
What is stop smoking hypnotherapy?
Stop smoking hypnotherapy is personalised therapeutic work on the habits, expectations and emotional triggers attached to cigarettes. We discuss why you smoke and why you want to stop, then use hypnosis, imagery and tailored suggestions to rehearse life as a non-smoker.
How does hypnosis work with smoking habits?
Hypnosis uses focused attention and therapeutic suggestions to work with familiar responses, such as reaching for a cigarette when you feel stressed. We explore what smoking seems to offer and practise other responses to those situations. Your own reasons for stopping guide the session.
Do I need to want to stop smoking myself?
Yes. The appointment is intended for people who have decided they want to stop. Hypnotherapy supports your decision and the changes you choose to make. If you feel unsure, you can contact me to discuss your concerns before arranging a session.
Can you help if I have smoked for many years?
Yes. You can enquire whether you have smoked for a few years or for much of your adult life. We look at your current routines, the situations you find difficult and your reasons for stopping now, then tailor the hypnosis around those details.
Do you work with social or occasional smokers?
Yes. You do not need to smoke every day to seek support. We can focus on situations such as drinking with friends, holidays or stressful periods when you find yourself accepting a cigarette. The work includes rehearsing those occasions as a non-smoker.
Does the programme cover roll-up cigarettes?
Yes. The session can focus on roll-ups as well as manufactured cigarettes. We discuss the routines around preparing, buying and smoking tobacco, including any rituals that feel especially difficult to let go of, so the hypnosis reflects your own habits.
Can I book if I have tried to quit before?
Yes. Previous attempts can offer useful information about what helped and what brought you back to smoking. We explore those experiences without judgement and prepare for the situations you want to handle differently this time.
Will hypnosis make me stop smoking against my will?
No. Clinical hypnotherapy is collaborative, and you remain involved in the goals we agree. You can speak, ask questions or stop at any time. The purpose is to support a change you want to make, using suggestions and imagery tailored to you.
Cravings, stress and everyday triggers
Can hypnotherapy help with cigarette cravings?
The session can focus on responding to an urge calmly and letting it pass without automatically reaching for a cigarette. We rehearse your difficult moments and discuss practical responses you can use. Nicotine withdrawal can also be supported with advice from an NHS stop smoking adviser.
How long does a cigarette craving last?
A craving usually lasts only a few minutes, although it can feel longer while you are experiencing it. Having a plan for that short period can help: pause, change activity, take a brief walk or contact someone supportive. We can rehearse your preferred response during hypnosis.
Why do I feel that smoking helps my stress?
Smoking can briefly relieve the discomfort of nicotine withdrawal, which may feel like stress relief. The NHS explains that this cycle can add to anxiety and tension. We work on other ways to settle yourself and handle pressure as you stop smoking.
Can you help with smoking after meals or with coffee?
Yes. We can focus on specific links between cigarettes and familiar routines, such as finishing dinner or making your first coffee. Hypnosis can include imagining the routine feeling complete without smoking, alongside choosing a small practical change for that moment.
What about smoking when I drink alcohol?
Tell me if alcohol or nights out are a strong trigger. We can rehearse enjoying those situations without cigarettes and prepare a clear response when someone offers you one. You may also choose to change your drinking plans while you establish your new routine.
Can I still take breaks at work after I stop smoking?
Yes. A break can still provide rest, fresh air or time with a colleague without involving cigarettes. We explore what you value about smoking breaks and plan alternatives that keep those benefits. Hypnosis can include rehearsal of a busy working day as a non-smoker.
Can hypnotherapy help with worries about gaining weight?
We can discuss appetite, snacking and the hand-to-mouth habit as part of your concerns about stopping. Sessions can include rehearsal of calmer choices around food and routines that feel satisfying. You can also seek personalised advice from a healthcare professional if weight or nutrition is a concern.
How do I manage being around friends who still smoke?
Prepare how you will respond before the situation arises. You might explain your decision, ask friends not to offer cigarettes and choose somewhere else to spend a break. In hypnosis, we can rehearse feeling comfortable and sociable without joining in with smoking.
Your session, price and recording
What happens in a stop smoking hypnotherapy session?
We begin with a consultation about your smoking habits, triggers and reasons for stopping. I explain the approach and answer your questions before guiding you through tailored hypnosis. You then receive your personalised hypnosis recording to use at home after the appointment.
How much does stop smoking hypnotherapy cost?
The stop smoking programme costs £300 for your tailored appointment, including the consultation, hypnosis and your personalised hypnosis recording. Optional follow-up sessions cost £220 each if you would like further support. Appointments are available near Liverpool Street in London and online by Zoom.
Is my hypnosis recording included in the £300 price?
Yes. Your personalised hypnosis recording is included in the £300 stop smoking session price. It supports the suggestions and imagery used in your appointment, so you can continue practising at home in the days and weeks after you stop.
Is this a one-session stop smoking programme?
The programme is structured around one tailored stop smoking appointment, including consultation, hypnosis and a recording for home practice. If you would like further support with particular triggers or staying on track, optional follow-up sessions are available at £220 each.
How is the personalised recording different from a general audio?
Your recording comes from the hypnosis tailored to your session, reflecting the habits, situations and reasons for stopping that we have discussed. A general relaxation audio is designed for a broader audience. The free audio on my website lets you hear my voice before booking.
How often should I listen to my stop smoking recording?
Regular listening can support practice with the suggestions and imagery from your appointment. We discuss a manageable routine for using your recording at home. Choose a time and place where you can relax comfortably and listen without needing to attend to anything else.
Can I listen to the hypnosis recording while driving?
No. Listen only somewhere safe where you can relax fully. Do not use a hypnosis recording while driving, cycling, operating machinery or doing anything that needs alertness. At home, choose a comfortable place where you will not be interrupted.
What does stop smoking hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis can feel like calm, absorbed attention, with your focus on my voice or the imagery we use. You remain aware and can speak or stop. There is no need to empty your mind or achieve a particular sensation; I explain the process and adapt it around you.
Preparing to quit and using other support
Do I need to stop smoking before my appointment?
Contact me about timing so we can agree a plan that fits your appointment and readiness to stop. You do not need to feel that you have solved the habit before asking for help. Thinking about your triggers and reasons for stopping is a useful starting point.
How can I prepare for stop smoking hypnotherapy?
Notice when you smoke, what happens just beforehand and what you hope cigarettes will do for you. Write down your reasons for stopping and the situations you want to handle differently. Bring any questions about the session, the recording or support after your appointment.
What if I have a cigarette after deciding to stop?
A slip is a reason to review what happened and return to your plan, rather than abandon the decision. Notice the trigger and the response you want to practise next time. Contact me if you would like to discuss further support, or speak with your stop smoking adviser.
Can I use nicotine patches or gum alongside hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy can sit alongside nicotine replacement therapy and NHS stop smoking support. It focuses on the routines and feelings attached to cigarettes. Ask a pharmacist or stop smoking adviser which nicotine replacement products and doses would suit your circumstances.
Can I use prescribed stop smoking medication too?
Discuss medication with your GP, pharmacist or stop smoking adviser. They can explain suitable options and how to use them. You can tell me about the support you are receiving so the hypnosis and practical planning fit alongside your wider stop smoking plan.
Should I tell my GP if I take regular medication?
Yes. Tell your GP or pharmacist that you plan to stop smoking, because smoking can affect how some medicines are processed. A clinician may need to review or monitor your dose. Keep taking prescribed medication as directed and seek their advice before making changes.
What if I am pregnant and want to stop smoking?
Contact your midwife or GP for help with a pregnancy-specific stop smoking plan. They can connect you with NHS support and advise on suitable stop smoking aids. If you are considering hypnotherapy, we can discuss how it might fit alongside that care.
What are the benefits of stopping smoking?
Stopping smoking benefits your health and frees up the money and time spent on cigarettes. Taste and smell can improve, and breathing and fitness can become easier over time. The NHS benefits-of-quitting guide explains the changes that follow stopping; these are benefits of quitting smoking itself.
