My appointment with susannah has gone very very well, I have now been off the weed habit for over a month now, she has taken away my want to smoke it and some of the issues that go with it when you stop smoking it, I cannot thank this lady enough for giving me a new start, the voice notes that you will get after your appointment help so much, I listen to them every night before bed, now I only need to listen to them every now and then, not once have I wanted to go and get some (w) and it is all down to the appointment I had with susannah, highly recommend if you have the problem that I had, tried to give up myself but always gave in to it, I have a new life now and getting a lot done, sleeping is good and have saved a lot of money not smoking it, thinking more clearly now too, I’m so please as it’s been a habit of mine for many many years, I couldn’t have done this without her help and I’m so grateful, she is there if you need extra help too xPosted on Google![]()

I've been working with Susannah for several months to work on my insomnia issues. After a few sessions we discovered I was also mildly depressed and we have been working together to try and fix the issues I was experiencing. In just 6 weeks I've gone from a fragment of myself to an inspired, vibrant person again and I'm so thrilled with the results. Susannah's hypnotherapy sessions are beautiful and she really works with you to become better. Highly recommend her to anyone!Posted on Google![]()

Highly recommended. It is very easy to communicate with Susannah and Susannah transmits positive vibes. Clearly Susannah focus is the well being of her patients. I gave up vaping in one session, no craving and no need to substitute by something else. This helps me to open a new chapter in my life without the servitude of smoking/vaping. 100% success as far as I am concerned. Would turn to Susannah again for what ever my needs are in the future.Posted on Google![]()

I have been on quite the journey with Susannah. For so many years so many aspects of my life seemed to be causing me anxiety and anger, making me too exhausted to complete simple, everyday tasks, that seemed straightforward to other people. I couldn’t imagine things would improve without months of therapy at least. Working with Susannah however made me understand that it was my perception of my life rather than the events of my life that needed addressing, and this made finding solutions so much more manageable. Right from the first session things started to improve, and as it turned out, in total I needed only five sessions. Susannah has a gift for explaining complex functions of the brain in a super-accessible way, so that I now both understand what was going wrong and have developed strategies to support me in preventing the build-up of stress and anxiety in the future. I cannot think of an area of my life that has not been positively impacted by my time with Susannah and cannot recommend her highly enough.Posted on Google![]()

I would like to start my review with thanking Susannah. I was sceptical, but went in with an open mind. I had one session of hypnosis to help quit smoking. I was a person that could stop and start but I wanted to quit for good. My session was at the beginning of Feb and so far so good. I feel a lot better health wise also helped motivate me to consistently go to the gym and generally take better care of myself. If your thinking about doing it, go for it, best decision I've made.Posted on Google![]()

I got in touch with Susannah after yet another flight that made me feel sick and traumatised. Living overseas is great until you begin to have a fear or flying which impacts your ability to travel with your husband and also for work. Since spending time with Susannah i have been able to fly a total of 4 times in the last 2 weeks and havent gotten upset or fearful like i used too once - im now able to fly and the worst thing that happens is i get bored!! :) I cant thank Susannah enough for helping me with this fear! Also, and i think no coincidence, i am far calmer in my day to day life. I absolutely never thought id be able to get off of a plane and go in to the office, instead of needing a sleep and a drink to get through it!!! Absolutely changed my life - long may it continue.Posted on Google![]()

I'm a 33yo woman. I've struggled most of my life with low mood/depression and anxiety. I came to Susannah looking for help in changing my unhealthy habits and mindset. I can't even tell you exactly what has changed since my 3 hypnotherapy sessions, only that something in me has shifted, I feel better, more content, positive and lighter and I'm making better choices. After the first session it felt like something in my brain moved, for the better. I was really sceptical going in to this, especially as the sessions were online, but it worked. Would definitely recommend Susannah, the sessions aren't cheap but was worth every penny to me.Posted on Google![]()

I recently had 3 sessions of hypnotherapy with Susannah to help with a fear of flying that had been causing me anxiety, and tainting my experience of travel and holidays for many years. This was my first experience of hypnotherapy, and it was an extremely positive and beneficial one, as I have since been on multiple flights without that old anxiety, and free of the accompanying tension and fear. This is entirely down to Susannah's calming, patient manner and extremely insightful techniques. I can't recommend her services highly enough. What is skin picking?
Skin picking, also called dermatillomania or excoriation disorder, is a strong urge to pick, scratch or squeeze your skin, often until it bleeds. It's a body-focused repetitive behaviour, or BFRB, in the same family as hair pulling and nail biting. Hypnotherapy can help calm the urge, so you feel in control of your hands again.
Why do I pick my skin?
You pick your skin because it brings short-term relief from stress, boredom or tension, which teaches your brain to do it again. Many people also feel driven to smooth out bumps, spots or rough patches until the skin feels right. Hypnotherapy can help you find calmer ways to get that relief, so the urge weakens over time.
What's the difference between automatic and focused picking?
Automatic picking happens while your attention is elsewhere, like scrolling or watching TV, while focused picking is deliberate, often in front of a mirror. Many people do both, at different times of day. Hypnotherapy can help with both, by building awareness and calming the urge.
What triggers skin picking?
Common triggers include stress, boredom, tiredness, being alone and seeing or feeling a bump on your skin. Mirrors, bright bathroom lighting and long evenings on the sofa can also set it off. Hypnotherapy can help you spot your triggers and respond calmly.

Does stress make skin picking worse?
Yes, stress can make skin picking worse, because picking is a quick way your brain tries to release tension. Busy periods at work, exams or worries at home can all lead to more picking. Hypnotherapy can help lower your stress, so the urge feels weaker.
Can hypnotherapy help my confidence about the marks on my skin?
Yes, hypnotherapy can help you feel more confident while your skin heals. Many people hide marks with make-up, long sleeves or hair, and avoid swimming or summer clothes. Ego strengthening can help you feel comfortable in your own skin again.
What is solution-focused hypnotherapy, and how can it help?
Solution-focused hypnotherapy combines a forward-looking conversation about what you want with hypnosis to calm your mind. We focus on how you want your skin and your days to feel, and build on what's already helping. It suits people who want practical help to break the habit.
How does skin picking hypnotherapy work?
Skin picking hypnotherapy works by lowering your stress and helping you change the thoughts, feelings and habits involved in picking. In hypnosis, we work on the negative stories, thoughts and beliefs that keep the problem going, like believing your skin must be perfect. Then, where helpful, you mentally rehearse calm hands in the moments you'd usually pick.
What happens in a skin picking hypnotherapy session?
Each session combines a solution-focused conversation with time in hypnosis, while you sit back with your eyes closed. Your first session is the initial consultation, which includes hypnosis, and later sessions start with what's gone well since we last met. After each session, you have the personalised recording to listen to at home.
What does research say about stress, anxiety and skin picking?
Research describes stress, anxiety, boredom and sensory experiences as possible triggers for skin picking. The TLC Foundation explains that the pattern varies from person to person. A 2019 meta-analysis found that hypnosis helped reduce anxiety across the studies reviewed. We discuss your own triggers and use that understanding to plan the sessions.

What would you like to know about skin picking hypnotherapy?
Understanding skin picking and its triggers
Picking can become so absorbing that time disappears and you only notice afterwards. Repeated movements and the feeling of searching for a rough patch can become automatic. Hypnotherapy can help you become aware of the urge sooner, so you can choose what to do.
It's hard to stop because picking can bring instant relief, and your brain learns to repeat it. Willpower often runs out when you're tired, stressed or on your own. Hypnotherapy works with those subconscious habits, so new responses can feel natural.
Many people feel ashamed of picking because it seems like something they should be able to control. You might hide marks with make-up or clothes, and avoid swimming, holidays or close contact. Hypnotherapy can help you let go of the shame, which can also ease the urge to pick.
Skin picking is more common than most people realise. The TLC Foundation describes body-focused repetitive behaviours, such as skin picking and hair pulling, as common worldwide. These habits often first appear in late childhood or early adolescence, and many people keep them private for years.
Spots, scabs, cuticles, lips and scalp
Yes, hypnotherapy can help if you pick or squeeze spots, blackheads or acne, even when you know it makes them worse. Picking can leave red marks and scars that take longer to heal than the spot itself. Hypnotherapy can help calm the urge, so your skin has the chance to heal.
Yes, hypnotherapy can help if you pick at scabs, so wounds keep reopening. Many people feel driven to remove a scab the moment they feel its edge. Hypnotherapy can help you leave scabs to heal, by calming the urge and keeping your hands busy.
Yes, hypnotherapy can help if you pick or bite the skin around your nails until it's sore or bleeding. It often happens automatically, during meetings, on your phone or while watching TV. Hypnotherapy and a competing response, like pressing your fingertips together, can help your hands stay calm.
Yes, hypnotherapy can help if you pick, peel or bite your lips, especially when they're dry. Lip picking is often automatic and can happen many times a day. Hypnotherapy can help you notice the urge sooner and keep your hands away from your face.
Yes, hypnotherapy can help if you pick at your scalp, often while reading, studying or watching TV. Because it's hidden by hair, scalp picking can carry on for years before anyone sees it. Hypnotherapy can help bring the habit into your awareness, so you can choose to stop.
Yes, hypnotherapy can help if you dig at ingrown hairs or pick at bumps on your arms, legs, back or chest. Many people use tweezers or pins and lose track of time, leaving marks and scars. Hypnotherapy can help calm the urge, so you can leave your skin alone and let it heal.
Yes, hypnotherapy can help with hair pulling, nail biting and cheek biting, which are in the same family as skin picking. Many people have more than one of these habits, and they often share the same triggers. We can work on them together, with the same calm, practical approach.
Mirrors, evenings and everyday habits
You can cut down mirror sessions by softening bathroom lighting, putting away magnifying mirrors and setting a time limit. Close-up mirrors and bright light make every pore and bump look bigger, which fuels the urge. Hypnotherapy can help you walk past the mirror calmly and see your skin with kinder eyes.
You can reduce automatic picking by keeping your hands busy, with a fidget toy, stress ball or something to hold. Automatic picking happens when your mind is elsewhere, so you might only notice afterwards. Hypnotherapy can help build your awareness, so you catch the urge as it starts.
Many people pick more at night because they're tired, alone and their guard is down. Bedtime scrolling or lying awake can give your hands time to wander. The personalised recording can help you relax at bedtime, with your hands at rest.
If you pick again, it's a slip, and you can get back on track. Slips often happen at stressful times, and each one is a chance to learn your triggers. Hypnotherapy can help you reset quickly and keep going.
Practical tips include keeping nails short, wearing plasters or gloves at high-risk times and keeping your hands busy. These barriers give you a moment to notice the urge before you act on it. Combined with hypnotherapy, they can help new habits stick.
Hypnosis and other techniques I use
Awareness training helps you notice the urge, and the early movements of your hands, before you start picking. In hypnosis, we rehearse those first moments, so you catch them sooner in daily life. The earlier you notice, the easier it is to choose something else.
A competing response is a small action that keeps your hands busy, like clenching your fists or pressing your fingertips together. You use it for a minute or so when the urge appears, until it passes. Practised in hypnosis, it can start to feel automatic.
Positive suggestion is the use of clear, encouraging statements in hypnosis, when your mind is relaxed and open to change. For skin picking, that might be suggestions for calm hands and noticing the urge early. Repeated on the personalised recording, these suggestions can help new responses feel natural.
Ego strengthening is a set of suggestions that build self-belief and remind you of your strengths and past successes. It's useful when shame about your skin has knocked your confidence. It helps you feel kinder towards yourself, which can ease the urge to pick.
Anchoring links a calm feeling to a small physical cue, like pressing your thumb and finger together. It doubles as a competing response, giving your hands something to do when the urge appears. Over time, the cue brings back that calm state quickly.
Reframing is looking at a situation in a new way, so it feels more manageable. A bump can become something to leave alone and let heal, and a slip can become useful information. In hypnosis, the new view can feel more natural, so it sticks.
EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques, involves tapping on points on your face, upper body and hands while you focus on a feeling. I may use it to help you feel calmer when an urge appears. It also gives your hands something to do, and we can explore whether it suits you.
A useful technique is to breathe out for longer than you breathe in, which helps calm your stress response. You can use it when you feel the urge, in front of the mirror or at bedtime. I teach you this alongside anchoring, so you have quick tools whenever the urge appears.
Self-hypnosis is a skill I teach you, so you can relax and refocus your mind on your own. You can use it in the evenings, at bedtime or whenever the urge builds. With practice, it takes a few minutes.
Mental rehearsal is picturing yourself handling a tricky moment calmly, while you're relaxed in hypnosis. You might rehearse walking past the mirror or noticing the urge on the sofa, and choosing something else. Where helpful, we also picture your skin healed and your hands at rest, so it feels real.
Skin picking hypnotherapy can help anyone who picks, squeezes or scratches their skin, from spots and scabs to cuticles, lips or scalp. It can help whether you pick a little or for hours at a time. It can also help with related habits, like hair pulling and nail biting.
The stress bucket is a way of picturing how stress builds up over time. Every worry, late night and busy day adds to it, while sleep, rest and support help you recover. We use it to talk about what is adding to your stress and how you can feel calmer.
Sessions, confidentiality and qualifications
The personalised recording is the audio of your hypnosis session, for you to listen to at home between sessions. It's ideal at bedtime, when many people find the urge strongest. Listening regularly helps reinforce the positive changes we make together.
Yes, you stay in control throughout hypnosis, aware of what's happening and able to open your eyes at any time. Hypnosis is a natural, focused state, a bit like being absorbed in a good book. Most people find it very relaxing, and you come out feeling refreshed and alert.
Yes, you can have skin picking hypnotherapy online by secure, encrypted Zoom, from the comfort of your own home. Many people find it easier to talk openly about picking at home. My online hypnotherapy page has more detail.

Questions you might find difficult to ask
I can help with the picking that keeps you at the mirror for hours. You might start by checking one spot, then keep looking for something else to squeeze or smooth out. We talk about what happens before you get stuck there and use hypnosis to change that pattern, so leaving the mirror feels easier.
Picking can keep going because the urge or sense of relief feels stronger in that moment than the thought of how your skin will look afterwards. You might be trying to get rid of a bump or make an area feel smooth. We can work on that urge and the thoughts around it, so your hands can leave your skin alone.
Hypnosis can help with the habit of running your fingers over your skin looking for bumps. Searching can be the first part of the picking cycle, before you have even decided to pick. We can work on noticing that movement and changing how you respond to the feeling of a rough patch.
I can help with picking that carries on even when your acne is improving. The urge can become a habit of its own, linked to checking, touching or trying to make your skin look right. We focus on that pattern and how you want to feel about your skin while you continue your usual skincare or dermatology treatment.
I can help with the stress and picking that happen after a difficult day at work. You might hold everything together all day, then start picking as soon as you get home. We can use hypnosis to help you unwind and change that evening habit, so your time at home feels more relaxing.
Hypnotherapy can help with the embarrassment and worry that make you cancel plans because of marks on your face. We can work on how you feel about being seen, alongside the picking itself. The work is tailored to the things you want to enjoy again, such as seeing friends, dating or going to work with more confidence.
I can help with skin picking while you study or work from home. It may happen while you read, think through a problem or sit on a video call. We look at those specific situations and use hypnosis to help your hands settle while you concentrate.
You can talk to me about skin picking even if you have hidden it for years. You can explain what happens in your own words, including anything you feel embarrassed about. I take time to understand your experience and what you would like help with, so we can plan the sessions together.
You can check my qualifications on my about page and verify my professional registrations through the CNHC and my General Hypnotherapy Register profile. My CNHC registration number is CNHC10269 and my GHR registration number is 3034. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, HPD and SQHP qualifications, and trained with CPHT.
Hypnotherapy can fit alongside care from your GP or dermatologist by helping with urges, stress, habits and confidence.
